Bluenose II Relaunches Today

The iconic Nova Scotian schooner, "Bluenose II", has undergone a $15.9 million overhaul, and will relaunch Saturday, September 29, in the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Depending on the level of the tide, the official moment of the relaunch should take place at approximately 8:10 am.

This is one of those occasions where the phrase "love is blind" is appropriate.
To see her sailing again will be a treat, even if she is "2 1/2"
Family member was agent for Oland brews, and went aboard "II" on her shakedown to Bermuda, way back when. with a "Schooner"

Really happy they "rebuilt" this beautiful and historic vessel!
I don't understand how they can call it Bluenose II, when, in fact, they tore II apart. This boat is completely new, from the keel up. There is no part of Bluenose II included in the construction of this boat.
I have been following the construction since the beginning - amazing job - let's hope she lives for another 100 years!

I heard that because the Canadian Registry requires unique boat names they could not use the name "Bluenose III." There is a bow runner or something on Lake Huron that is registered under the Bluenose III name. They figured Bluenose II was better than Bluenose IV.

Actually, I believe part of the original 1960s keel and a few other bits and pieces were incorporated into the "new" boat, either for the sake of savings, sentiment or to counter objections that it was a total reconstruction.

Or all three.
