If you're going to get rescued, you're truly lucky to have Richard Branson answer the call, and let you spend a few days on Necker Island.

Sounds more like a PR thing. I mean who can't look after a furling main when its stuck?

Maybe it is the difference between being great at racing small boats and cruising in larger keel boats.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Have you seen the photos? Looks to me like the foil extrusion got pulled out thru the slot in the mast.

I happened to get to spend a couple of hours chatting with Sir Ben and his lovely bride Georgie a couple of weeks ago. He has had some challenges with his beautiful boat Rita. I can think of far worse places to be needing repairs!!!

Would have thought on a charter boat, pan pan would be insurance requirment, with any "major" problem

Rita isn't a charter boat.

As an employee of a charter base I've never heard of issuing a pan pan for insurance coverage. How could verification of a pan pan be made?

That's a sweet lookin' ride.

As far as the in-mast furling goes, maybe it came with it.

Cant be a problem with in-mast furling ....we all know that stuff is perfect! Must have been Ainslee's lack of sailing knowledge!

Trouble with in mast furlers is going round in circles does not solve the problem the way it does with a genoa..

Ya those damn wires get in the road, send the light weight wifey up the mast with a sharp knife if you are in dire straights or if its lighter winds go somewhere and drop the hook and fool around with it.

Oh that's it, now were all going to get rid of or in mast furling system. Who knew boat parts break. Esp on big expensive boats like that.

I think if I had a boat near Sir Nub Nub's island, and saw a yummy barbecue and swimming pool, my furler would also suddenly for some unexpected reason fail too!
