He is not mental. He's very bright and perhaps too singleminded for most people.

He's been going his own way since he was a kid. I knew him long time ago in the 60's when I lived in Gothenburg, Sweden. He's been doing the things *he* wanted to do in *his* way. He's not looking for fame - he's already famous and considered an amazing sailer and designer - but not for millionaires.

All he's looking for are a few sponsors to make it possible on the meager assets he's got - he's never gotten rich from going his own way unless you count rich in personal satisfaction and life experiences.

I think we may be using the word Mental in different ways - was not meant to be derogatory, nor to suggest any actual mental heath issues.

No, David, I knew what you meant - that it wasn't derogatory from your end..=*^)

Just wanted to make sure people knows he isn't "mental" in the way you *didn't* mean..

=*^)

He's a very interesting and down to earth guy - got some serious math skills.

Re: Around the World Nonstop in a 10-Foot Boat

I do not like the 'non-stop' part of it. As if sailing with stopovers were less of a challenge in such a small ship and solo.

If no watermaker onboard then I think it cannot be done given the volume of the boat.

So, watermaker, so then solar power too and quite a lot of it. And then perhaps some form of storage for the power and also some tanks for the produced water ....

Well, some technical challenge, uh?

He could bring a manual watermaker and spend a couple of hours each day pumping away, getting exercise, passing the time.

I thought that the bicycle thing he was peddling may have been a pump for a watermaker.

On the fame a glory piece - Saw this in Malaysia a couple of years ago. Note the registration letters - I think the homeport on the transom was Vladivistok.

To my knowledge no one was writing news articles about it...

Nothing wrong with selling and making money but there are lots of folks sailing around in weird stuff we don't even know about.

Looks like an ex-ships lifeboat - I wonder if he put any keel on her?, or just sails sideways! / chugs along under motor.

I think he is nucking futs, in an idiot-savant kind of way, and wish him all the luck he'd gonna need!
