I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with this guy, or that he's a bad person, or even that he's not a conscientious, dedicated sailor. He's probably a great guy and no doubt a very good sailor. We could probably all learn a lot from him (just like from the Pardeys). But he is also doing this--at least in part--because he likes the kind of attention that he is getting, and is going to get, from it. That's all I'm saying.

They do what they do because it keeps them doing what they are doing!
Sven is no different IMO.

There have been Atlantic crossings in six foot and under boats, I believe the record is 3' 4". It was bucket shaped.

Nah, tub shaped. The butcher, the baker, the candle stick maker. I remember.

I made a reply that someone needs to get the guy a World of Warcraft account, but a moderator apparently deleted it. Must be one of the light hearted ones that can take a joke.

So this will probably open a door for the youngest person in the smallest boat to do it next...

Apparently no one accepts records for "youngest" anymore, too much controversy.

Minaret - WOW, got a pic? This would be tangible evidence that our worship of buckets is correct. I'd like to see a pic posted on our International Bucketteers Squadron's social club site.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: Around the World Nonstop in a 10-Foot Boat
Well, I hope he has a few buckets full of multivit/multimin suppliments.
Lets see, Sardines will give plenty of Omega oils and Vit A and D, Granola is good for Vit B1 and B2, but what about all the other A to Z's....
1.5 years, 365+183 days, 548 days, say a reputable multi vitamin/mineral capsule with breakfast and dinner, that's 1100 or so pills to stash somewhere.

Were WW2 life rafts bucket shaped? I remember reading years ago as a little boy a Readers Digest article on miracle escapes, along with the bomber crewman who survived hitting the sea from cruising altitude, there was a murmansk bound convoy where one of the sunk crewmen got his ship holed north of scandinavia somewhere and washed up alive on the shores of canada.

Re: Around the World Nonstop in a 10-Foot Boat
Hugo Vihlen, the boat was named "Fathers Day", it was 3' 11".
This website has a list of people who've done crazy things in small boats.

At 73 his tits are probably too big to have any chance at a record. or going viral .
The fella sounds mental - but in a good way (i.e. he is well aware from past personal experiance that what he is attempting is on the mental end of the spectrum). fair play to him .
