Anyone Heard from MarkJ ?

I imagine he's well underway, just didn't know if anyone had gotten an SMS from him. Hope all is well.

As far as I know, Mark doesn't have any way to communicate when out of cell phone air card range. He left the same time as the ARC, or maybe a day later. The first ARC boat arrived in St. Lucia yesterday. Many of the boats dove way south because of weather, lengthening the trip.

A HF/SSB radio -- marine or ham -- would have kept him in touch all the way across. Many long-distance cruisers carry them. And, it's free (after the installation cost).

Perhaps. But unlikely, given that whenever he's near wifi he's posting here :-)

btrayfors, I love your tireless campaign to get SSB on my boat.
I was just curious as to how things were going for him. Hopefully well and hope he checks in soon.

James, I thought SMS were dirt cheap?

I was wondering about Mark too. He's a techie, or so I gathered, with dough. I'm quite surprised if he doesn't have a way to communicate. Still, I'm looking forward to some good stories when he gets in range.

Still in the Canaries waiting to go across the Atlantic to St Martin.
The ARC goes this week and I will follow within a day or so.
The weather here has definitly changed and its feeling good to get going. A bit like a flock of migrating birds you can see the weather pattern is different and its cooler here, nights are very long, solar pannels need engine to help, etc

I can't wait to get away!
Part of a message he sent to my on the 15th of Nov.

Another MarkJ follower checking in today to see if that darn Ozzie has anything to say for himself... He is usually not at a loss for words (or opinions for that matter) ... Looking forward to when the good lad checks in and all of us can breathe a little easier. Godspeed, Mark.

Wow, with all these postings looking for the fella, what will Mark think when he gets to St. Martin?

My guess, "Where the h#@% can I get a beer?"
