A large steel hulled ferry would give more than she takes in a collision with most anything as small as a 40 ft boat no matter the material. Nothing can withstand the full force of that much tonnage. Still floating is good but what about leaking. Minor damage can indicate the underlying more serious damage with a trained eye. It obviously wasn't a direct assault. The boat needs to be hauled and inspected. There isn't any way to really tell without looking in detail.

One of the criticisms of ferro boats has been that there is not a good non-destructive test method to determine integrity. I suspect if one is ever developed we will se a lot more of this type construction.

Good luck. I hope you are able to assure your pride and joy is sea worthy.

It's called visual and it is done by someone that understands FC. Any other test is not required.

The simple, but effective, test is called "sounding" (or percussive sounding).
