American policy was once upon a time stated as "speak softly; but carry a big stick!" Seems that now it"s more like "issue a condemnation and hope that everyone will love us."

What happened to the good old days of letting them rot in cages at the entrance to the Thames?

(Joking...I know it's impractical to transport them to the mouth of the Thames, but Bab-el-Mandeb isn't out of the question.)

Dont worry s/v Alchemy, Indian Prisons would be just fine. Even a short stint would make them sober gentleman.

Read a great article in Nat Geo not too long ago. Something about the pirate King. it was very interesting. I will see if I can find it.

Am I missing something here? Surely cruising is about meeting people and sharing in different cultures. If we shoot at anyone who comes over the horizon its sure going to be a lonely trip.
As for the pirates (criminals run by organised gangs) I think its disgusting that this situation has been allowed to continue for as long as it has. It is about time the world nations got a lot tougher on them, tracked them down and hauled them off to the world courts and justice instead of sitting back and using politics as an excuse to ignore a difficult situation. If the Somali Government refuses to police its seas than its about time the world did it for them and opened the high seas back up. ERven if this means inposing a complete blockade on Somali shipping.

There is no government in Somalia, that's one of the problems.

However, why don't our governments go after the cash? were does the majority of it go to? certainly not the boys in the fishing boats with the AK47s.

The British, the Americans, The french, and other nations are there. But they can't control the situation?
Sounds like someone is afraid to pull the trigger. You got battleships, aircraft carriers, and god knows what else and you cannot get 5 guys in a row boat chasing a sailboat going an average of 5 knots an hour?

Walks away shaking head!

What a wonderful photo, these scumbags are just thugs, they need to be dealt with HARD! Enough PC in this crazy world! Those of you have sailed more than most ever will, have seen other people around the globe who are not well off, but dont resort to what these drug addicts do!
