Camshaft? Not too many of those carried as spares eh? Now about those shrouds..... Was that a propeller shaft leak or the rudder post? Not enough info.

I can fix all sorts of things but...................

Again, I find myself (probably) unqualified to cruise but if I get the chance I am going to try it again for a longer term than the single months I have done in the past.

I'm just glad some will NOT be able to put my VHF and EPIRB on ignore.

After 8 pages of generalities that could be measured in the width of Time Zones I have to comment that picking on one unfortunate sailing couple to make your global points… is not very nice.

The only people who make no mistakes are the ones who do nothing.
I find those types pretty boring and self-delusional.

Whether crossing the street or an ocean, I have made many mistakes and at times credit luck rather than my abilities that the mistake did not align with other weaknesses…to become news-worthy.

Make your points but not at the expense of a couple you do not know.

To be fair, I doubt after 8 pages that many posting remembers the names of the couple(?) or exact circumstances. or even location......so I think well into being a general thread about the subject.

As they got home alive they didn't do everything badly - not even all "real" sailors can make that claim . I suspect that going down with the ship gets old real quick......
