For some people it is as much about working on the boat as it is about sailing the boat. That's their right -- different strokes for different folks.

Dunno, I'm the idiot he came over and smacked, so I gave him my Can antenna and went to work on my chainplates.

Late to see this thread but that just cracked me up.

Now for the rest of it. Is it like talking about HR at all? I'll see.

Re: Another Crew Loses their Sailboat

Yep. Same old.

Camshaft? Not too many of those carried as spares eh? Now about those shrouds..... Was that a propeller shaft leak or the rudder post? Not enough info.

I can fix all sorts of things but...................

Again, I find myself (probably) unqualified to cruise but if I get the chance I am going to try it again for a longer term than the single months I have done in the past.

I'm just glad some will NOT be able to put my VHF and EPIRB on ignore.

Even if I deserve it......

I have told the hubby time and again, REAL MEN do not need bow thrusters. Our boat is not new but fully insured, what does that make us?!?

Re: Another Crew Loses their Sailboat

After 8 pages of generalities that could be measured in the width of Time Zones I have to comment that picking on one unfortunate sailing couple to make your global points… is not very nice.

The only people who make no mistakes are the ones who do nothing.
I find those types pretty boring and self-delusional.

Whether crossing the street or an ocean, I have made many mistakes and at times credit luck rather than my abilities that the mistake did not align with other weaknesses…to become news-worthy.

Make your points but not at the expense of a couple you do not know.
It is what makes CF a friendly compassionate Forum

Karma? I don't understand. RH is out there doing it, not messing around with long distance wifi.

To be fair, I doubt after 8 pages that many posting remembers the names of the couple(?) or exact circumstances. or even location......so I think well into being a general thread about the subject.

As they got home alive they didn't do everything badly - not even all "real" sailors can make that claim . I suspect that going down with the ship gets old real quick......
