Re: Annapolis Sailboat Show

OK - I have a question for all you Annapolis Boaters. (or any boater with this problem) I am anchored in Spa Creek up pass Marker # 3. We have a wonderful spot with nice neighbors, the only thing that is becoming a problem our the lil cute ducks. At night they are coming and sitting on the dink and leaving lil presents of HUGE piles of duckie poop. They are also coming on the back platforms and pooping. I know lifting the dighy up is an answer but I was wondering if there is any other trick to keeping them off the boat? When we lived in the islands people would hang plastic bags up to keep the seaguls off. Is there a duckie keep-off trick. Cleaning poop in the morning is getting old - and fast (it sucks even more after a night out at Boatyard and davis's!!)

Hoisting the dinghy is the best I've come up with.

Take advantage of the free bus service to see all the sights in Annapolis.

Make or buy a dog decoy/sillouette.....and set it in the dink at ngiht?
Or get a real dog?

Lone Dog Decoy Keeps Geese Away

you could probably make one easily enough out of a cardboard box to see if it works...

Just some ideas off the top of my head:

1) Shotgun but it's a messy solution and probably not healthy for the dingy.

2) A cutout of a big dog on a pivot placed in the dingy if it spins in the wind that would be a real plus.

3) Setup a duck trap on the dingy you still might have some poo to clean up but, the other ducks do get the message. In my experience they are not that dumb. Plus you get to try out a new duck recipe from time to time. Yum! Foi gras anyone?

Re: Annapolis Sailboat Show

This is fun!... Try stringing fishing line across the dink at night. It takes about 10 cross the tubes, hand holds, oar locks etc. Goofs them up and they find a different dink.

Great Thread, I have lived here 35 + years. I still like the 'Show". Hope to see you soon. Saturday? Fleet Reserve upstairs 3:00 pm ? A CF get together ?

Actually, we usually park in Eastport. I've always found a spot a block or two from the Spa Creek bridge where you can either grab one of the golf cart type shuttles over to the show or just walk on over if its a nice day.

Plenty of room as of this morning in Spa Creek to anchor and most of the moorings right under the bridge are still open.
