Re: Anchoring and Mooring in the FL Keys
Hi Dave,
Thanks for letting us know about the mooring and anchoring workshops down in the Key's. Will the workshop be on how to anchor and moor in the Key's? We are thinking of taking our Larson 240 Cabrio down for a 3-week Key's tour, bayside all the way, and we're a little concerned about a few key things, like navigating all the shallow waters down there as well as finding pump-outs and water hook-ups, etc........this would be our very first trip and we'd like to get things right on the first attempt! Any and all help from others would be greatly appreciated by me and my hubby!!!!!!
Thanks all!!!!!
Jelene!

Re: Anchoring and Mooring in the FL Keys
the workshops will be about how the state of florida intends to write laws about the right to anchor and moor in our beautiful state. if you plan on ever visiting this state please voice your concerns at one of these meetings or go to myfwc.com and leave an email. there are not enough marinas in florida and any further anchoring restrictions in fl would limit options for anchoring

Hello Jelene,
We have been moored in Marathon Key at City Marina for almost a month now. We love it. It was so easy to hook up to a ball and we don't worry about drifting on the hook at all. The community here is really great too. We have been blessed to meet so many people since we arrived. The city marina has great facilities to use, clean baths, workshop spaces w/ storage, tv areas, free wifi (in the building), weekly pump outs, bike racks, laundry, dinghy docks (included in your mooring fee) and one of my favorites is the VHF radio program every morning at 9am on channel 68. It's called the Cruisers Net, people meet & greet, buy/sell/trade/give away items, news/announcements and trivia. The harbor is easy to navigate, has restaurants and gas on the water, plus it's protected from all sides. There are taxi services here that will take you anywhere on the island for $5 one way, to get to grocery stores, movies, Home Depot, West Marine, airport, anything you need. It's safer then Key West and you can always catch a bus to KW $4 one way if you want to visit there. We haven't been to KW yet, but we have heard from lots of people that it is much harder navigating their dinghy to shore, very pricey, theft is higher and the waters are pretty rolly.
We have a 5'6" draft and get around no problem.
If you have any further questions contact me back.
Signed,
Julie & Matthew
