Something I hadn't really considered before: Builders really vet their first few yacht buyers, not saying they didn't in this case.

The good side of this many more people will know the brand; as they say in Hollywood "there's no bad publicity"

That's what I was thinking, a smoothed-over Flying Hawaiian.

Re: "Be Good Too" rescue 300 miles off Cape Henry

I wasn't aware of this thread when I started the other. This boat is brand frickin new and the first of it's model and was just handed over to the owners last week. It wasn't a homebuilt but was produced by a builder with a very long track record but sh*t happens. Comparing it to the Flyin Hawaiin is just cruel.
Perhaps Boatman61 is just too old to appreciate this new design. I'm sure he said the same thing about those infernal combustion automobiles when they first appeared.

Here's a photo gallery of the boat undergoing sea trials. "Be Good Too" is Alpha 42 hull no. 1.

Re: "Be Good Too" rescue 300 miles off Cape Henry

I think the editor of Sail magazine was on that boat.

"ABSENCE ALERT: I’ll be AWOL for about 10 days hopefully starting tomorrow. Just got a gig helping deliver the new Alpha 42 catamaran, hull number one, from New York to St. John in the USVI. (First bit of the passage promises to be bitter cold!) I’ll fill you in on the details on my return."

I think that is Sail Magazine executive editor Charled Doane being rescued at about 9:27 in that vid. He's the one with the cooler and last off the boat.
