Re: Alpha 42 "Be Good Too" rescue 300 miles off Cape Henry Merged

It's old engineers joke here. My English is probably too poor to translate it to be understandable and funny.
Sorry...

Just association - on the Alpha many things went wrong, nobody really know why...

And now it look like nobody on the builder side care at all. They are just going with production. No single attempt to explain the situation, to investigate the possible flaws. May be they just will make a kind of settlement with insurers and owners, dividing the cost between the insurer and builder.. to reimburse the owners Confidentally of course. No court case, no hassle. Build some new boats. Wait. Do nothing. Most boats never go to bad weather. Who cares..?..

Why not? It's what the big cat manufacturers do when their boats break, so why not the little guy too?

You are right of course. It does not mean anything to me if they are big or little.
This attitude of producers drive me angry anyway - big or little they are.

Wait, wait.... LITTLE??? Did You read their site??? They are real tycoons!!!

All the companies do it. Toyota had some really bad engines in their Corrollas. My friend bought one for her daughter and the engine went tits up way before it's time. I think most of these cars were out of warranty and hers had about 60,000 miles but do you think Toyota stepped up to the plate. No way. It's all in the internet, somewhere.
I can't fault Alpha at all.

I totally agree.. its down to whoever chose the route at that time of year.. and the Skipper not manning up and refusing to do it.. unless of course it was he..
Lets face it.. if one was to believe all the blurb put out by manufacturers nothing would sink and the Panama Canal would be redundant apart from Commercials..

O.K.
You can call it "progres"
I guess I'm not progressive at all

And... just curious... would You consider ordering from Alpha in case You were after new 40+ ft cat..?..

Really I'm asking just for curiosity

Absolutely. I will guarantee they take a long hard look at the rudder design. Alpha #2 should be well sorted and improved although there is the possibility that this really is an issue caused by nature.
I said it before and I'll say it again. I think most of the electrical issues were condensation related. It was frickin freezing then and you heat up a closed in boat and that's what you get. Look at the drips in the rudder stock photos. Those aren't leaks. One little drip in those electronic doohickies and you are screwed.
In the end, nobody really knows.

Yeah but all the modern engines. generators and everything else is full of them. Maybe we should power our boats with Seagull outboards.

Yes, one can not run off them, even when not liking them.
And this lead to the proper installation matter...
Where to put euipement.
How to connect it.
How to make everything waterproof.
How to arrange heating/ventillation to avoid condensation (as far as possible).
Not easy...

And still You need a handy place to stow a Seagull. It is nice to have something to throw overboard. Just to let the steam out, when something is going wrong
