It seems a sailor has found a 7ft bronze cannon anchored off St.Kitts and he's selling the GPS coordinates on ebay.As of 12:01am EST 1/28/16 the high bid is $51.00 usd. Before you bid you should read the article in Outside magazine by Josh Sampiero.Good luck !

There's a hefty amount of BS and stupidity in this. Firstly it is crass to try to profiteer from a historical wreck found in territorial waters of an impoverished nation. Second it is crass to encourage looters. Third it is rather silly to claim that this is a bronze cannon "from the 1600s" when in fact almost nothing is known about the cannon. Fourthly it is likewise silly and probably downright deceiving to suggest that this is a wreck "with treasure" or indeed a wreck at all! The cannon may have been blown overboard in a battle, in a storm, dropped while being transferred to a smaller vessel for import to the island or vice versa. It may also have been jettisoned to lighten the vessel if aground. 7m is not a whole heck of a lot for a sailing warship. For example a third rater "74" draws 7m exactly, which would have put it aground right there… A lot of speculation mixed with an unhealthy dose of selfishness and crassness.

Not to mention the potential to be charged with being "an accessory" if his buyers do end up pilfering it. May not stick outside that island's jurisdiction but the guy may be in for nasty surprise if he ever goes back. I dunno - for fifty bucks to tell the whole world you're an a-hole.

This is an obvious scam. He says in his ad that only a small portion of the cannon was exposed and that he dug around it. Rather curious that there are plants growing next to the cannon that would have been disturbed if he had actually dug it up.

Be aware that there are few places in the world where you can just go in and start salvaging a shipwreck. (Ask me how I know) There are a lot of scammers out there, but on the other hand, stranger things have happened................

I agree.
I reckon this is a scam. Any wreckage on the ocean floor belongs to someone, normally the owner(s) of the vessel involved, or in the case of an historic shipwreck adjacent to land, the government exercising jurisdiction over said land, so this guy has no right to sell this information. He probably expects the government of the Federation of St Kitt's and Nevis to stump up pre-emptively.
