39' Bravaria sinnks on the Erie Canal

74 year old operator apparently was trying to avoid floating debris and hit a bridge abutment. All aboard made it off safely. Not much other details and no photographs that I have found.

Does it mean they hit the base? It had to be a pretty jagged structure. Or a very lightly built boat. I guess plenty of current running etc.

Too bad. Glad the crew are fine.

Another interesting incident. Sailor 'fell off' his 14' Hobie Cat 3 miles offshore from Freeport, Texas & swam to shore.

I am unsure, I have never been down that part of the canal. But there are a lot of old cement columns for bridges that are no longer there. I am assuming he either hit one or the keel on the foundation of one. What an unfortunate loss.
