Re: 2011 Caribbean 1500

Sneuman, I don't know anyone who would seriously suggest that a Lagoon 380 or 400 could outrun the weather. Furthermore, comparing these boats to a Valiant is more than a little unfair as Bob Perry designed the Valiants as 'performance cruisers'. Comparing them to a Beneteau Oceanis would be closer to the mark.

Perhaps, but I have heard many, many, many times on this forum (you are invited to use the search function) the argument of outrunning bad weather, and that it can be done on a typical cruising cat vs. a mono.

Hot off the presses

40' Required for Circumnavigation

IMO the average catamaran is as safe offshore as a Hunter.........

... but next, you'll want yet another week for Christmas and then Chinese New Year, Ramadan, Yom Kippur ... and we'll never have ANY fun!

Re: 2011 Caribbean 1500

Honestly? It will never go away because:

when accidents occur, blame is assigned. And if you are going to assign blame you search out the cause, which leads you to ask is it the sailor or the boat?

or when performance claims are made, sailors will ask for proof.

Then it gets ugly...........

But it looks like everyone that sailed the Caribbean 1500 had a good sail and I wish them a fun and safe season and I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

Re: 2011 Caribbean 1500

I went and enjoyed it. I do not think you can make many conclusions from any of the results because of all the many variables. Any two boats are racing but people were fishing, hoving to for lunch, fixing nice dinners, motoring, taking markedly different routes for a better ride and point of sail so I would only make big general statements like an 80 cat might do better than a 37 foot mono. A professional caption will sure do better than me. I would not suggest much more accurate statements or conclusions can be made unless you just want to argue from your armchair to have something to do.
