18 years old to cross atlantic solo in OSTAR

I've come across an interview with Oscar Mead, an 18 year old that has entered the OSTAR, the single-handed transatlantic race from England to America, on a J105!

I dont know what to think, isn't he too young for that? and on a J105! I thought of J105s as little more than day boats, certainly not suited to cross the atlantic.
