What is this?

Hi Everyone,

Not sure what this electrical fitting is, attached to the chainplates, is it some kind of lightning arrestor?

Re: What is this?

Is the wire on the right in the picture yellow/green? Going to ship ground?

Re: What is this?

At this point, we are not sure where the wire is leading. I have just purchased the Beneteau Oceanis 400, this image has been supplied by my father who inspected the yacht and he asked me to see if anyone else knew what it was exactly.

My assumption is that it would be going to earth, for what that's worth.

Re: What is this?

Would say its a Mylar transient suppressor. Yep for lightning but not very effective for a straight hit ! Might even be a spark gap for the same reason

Re: What is this?

Thanks for the information, I would say that Emmalina probably knocked the nail on the head further backed up by my fathers finding here if anyone else is looking for the same. -> https://groups.google.com/forum/#!to...rs/l4oZFAErmGQ

Also many thanks for the welcome, I have been consuming all of the very helpful information here for some time but now that I am a new yacht owner I am sure to be frequenting here more often!

Thanks again!
