The Smart Way to Capitalise on Title Case

In response to this closed sticky...
Quote:
When you make a title, start every important word (nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives) with a capital letter. It helps keep our forum tidy. Thank you

... It helps us look more intelligent and professional than the other forums!
Hey, you make the rules, so at the end of the day, i'll do as I'm told. However, I subscribe to a different school of 'title case'. I think capitalising every other word in a title actually looks less intelligent and professional.

ie. I think the 'intelligent' way is to capitalise only the first word and proper nouns.

I googled it... (googled in this instance being an adjective)
Which Words in a Title Should Be Capitalized? - Title Case and Sentence Case -
Rules for Capitalization in Titles

If you're trying to make it look more intelligent and professional, you might be better to reword titles to make them concise and thread relevant as opposed to playing with case.

My 2c - not sure what its worth

The way you capitalized this thread is IMHO the correct method and how I learned in school.

Re: The Smart Way to Capitalise on Title Case

Crikeys, Wannabe, you are treading on thin ice. The last person to question this dictum disappeared and has not been seen nor heard from since. This is possibly due to his being abducted by space aliens, but I personally think a hit man, hired by an anonymous CF maderator, capped him and used him as an anchor buoy (on a new generation anchor, of course).

Beware ye who cross this line, and Capitalize EveryThing In Sight.

Cheers,

Jim

Hmmm... I've heard that one had to be careful around these parts, but I'm sure a touch off humility wrapped in a little respect should serve as protection from abductions.

Edit: oh, and I titled the thread according to the request in the referenced closed sticky, not according to my own education and preferences.

Re: The Smart Way to Capitalise on Title Case

What difference does it make how many capitals you use if you can't spell "capitalize"?

He is writing the Kings English, not colonial American english. We can have a great debate about this.

Let's step outside, have a fag, lean on the windscreen of your saloon and later see what you have in your boot. After that we can pop the bonnet

Do you need a translation?

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

I agree, at the moment it should properly be called the Queen's English - however, when (and if -those british royal ladies are infernally long-lived) Charles takes over - it will again be the King's English

True, but a good cigar after dinner when seated in the cockpit watching the sun go down is enjoyable.

Quite awhile back there was a cigar discussion hereabouts where the posters were having a pissing contest about the high cost of their cigars. I think I recall a $50 a stick #.

If I did spend my dough that way I'd have better manners than to put it out there for average Joes to read about.

Last I checked, I'm fairly sure the word 'English' should be capitalised whichever way you use it!!

We absolutely agree. I am sure we do ask members to keep their titles concise and relevant.

If you want to use sentence case for a title, rather than title case, that's fine too. But speeling is important regardless if the search engine is to be of any use whatsoever.

That should be '' It's the Queen's English, but that's just quibbling.''

Well, I don't spend $50 on a cigar, but I will go $10 or 15. I only smoke 5 or 10 per year, so it is an inexpensive vice (especially compared to my alcohol expenditures (red wine - sigh)
