Sending Private Message Problem . . .

Earlier today, I was attempting to send a private message (for my first time) to an individual with a forum posting for crew.

The message would not send. I continued to give me an error message about included "links." There were none. But, even so I tried removing anything that could remotely be considered a link by the system. Still, it would not allow the provate message to send.

Finally, after numerous tries at revising the message, removing words (that might have been mis-read by software, etc., I got a message that said something about being blocked because of too many tries?

Can someone plelase advise what is going on here?

My draft private message was completely appropriate, on topic (in response to a cruise crewperson wanted forum posting), and without a hint of foul language or anything off topic. And, there were NO LINKS, as the sytem kept telling me there were.

Please advise how to solve this problem? What, exactly, is happening here?

Thank you.

JEdward

There have been some software issues that are being looked into. Thanks for bringing yours up.

Please let us know if you continue to have this problem.

Re: Sending Private Message Problem . . .

Andy,

Isn't there also something about needing a baseline post count before being able to send PM and attach links?

I thought this was part of the "anti-spamming" strategy.

Painful for new folks but helps keeps the spam robots in check.

Re: Sending Private Message Problem . . .

New members can send PMs without reaching 10 posts. There is an algorithm in the software that looks for suspicious behavior in new user posts and PMs and then will lock down an account from posting or sending a PM based on that. It isn't very sophisticated but it has reduced the amount of spam we see tremendously.

You should be fine now.

Re: Sending Private Message Problem . . .

I just want to send a question. Not necessarily "private". "It" wants to know who I am sending to. How would I know.....I just wrote "anyone"....and that's just who I
would like to respond...."anyone" that can help.
What is a "security token"????

Re: Sending Private Message Problem . . .

If you want to ask a question to the community in general then you must "Post" that question in one of the forums. Go to the forum that seems to be the right topic area and find "New Thread" and put your question in that.

A PM must have an address to "go" to. It would be like sending a letter or email with no address. How would it know where to go?
