reputation colours

What do the reputation colours and stars mean? If someone has no stars does it mean they earned those no stars, or have they just never been rated?

Re: reputation colours

Darned if I know! I went from "Registered User" to "Senior Cruiser" one day, and it certainly was not from any increase in experience or wisdom! Maybe a Moderator can speak to it.

I think the stars are awarded by the amount of posts one makes.. tell at a glance how involved with the community one is.. there's some who join and never post.. just feed on the info the other posters provide.
The colours.. a service vendor is blue.. green is a guy who cant shut up and has over 17K posts..
But.. I could be completely wrong..

It is like Amway ranking system. Money for nothing and chips for free.

I like your avatar. I hope you are not a 50 y.o. male cruising alone.

If you are not, I will be happy to try & find partial answers to any questions you may have regarding sail trim, offshore provisioning and free diving.

Cheers,
b.

I'm likely the best-looking poster on this forum. I don't see that indicated by anything. What's the deal?

Barnakiel, would it be possible to respond without making a very welcome new member uncomfortable?

Shawna...if these old boat bums get to you, just throw a bottle of rum and run the opposite direction!

Re: reputation colours

It was also explained to me recently that you can change your title from "Registered User" to something else as one of the perks for supporting the website ($15).

Haven't done it yet, but one of these days I'll be classed as "Serious Wannabee".

Yes. Hopefully.

I was not aware I was making OP uncomfortable. Apologies @ Shawna and at posters and readers in this thread.

+ @Shawna: If I said anything that sounded odd or not right, PLS put it on the fact that I am not a native speaker of English. I am not.

Let me try and explain the stars and colours system in proper English as expressed more skillfully by masters of this beautiful (but ambiguous!) language:

Stars system explained:

Colours system explained:

As you can see then, it is all related to the fact that societies and communities refuse to exist without badges, stigmas, labels and other such nuisances.

My offer of support in any matters related to sailing still standing.

Cheers, respectfully,
barnakiel
