Re: Problems Downloading Pages from CF

I continue to have problems with CF and Chrome, but keep hitting the refresh button until something happens-once the page start to load, everything is fine. Since I very rarely have any problems with other sites, I suspect the problem is at the CF end, but I can work around it.

Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

My solution is to hit the refresh button until I see some other response, but sometime it takes 5 refreshes to get anywhere. Once downloading starts, everything is OK. It happens mostly on the CF website.

Is there something I need to adjust on the browser??
Google Chrome / XP at work, and Chome / Windows 7 at home. Constant problems just as you describe.

The problem only seems to affect fora. Sailnet and CF started doing it last week.

Won't use Firefox any more due to crashes and freezes. If Firefox rocks, so does having a root canal.

If the problem was at the CF end I suspect that there would be many complaints about this problem. There doesn't seem to be.

Strange that you are having crashes and freezes that you attribute to FF. I have had none of those and ran FF with XP (for several years) and now with Win 7 (for more than a year).

I did have some crashes and freezes shortly after I upgraded my computer hardware. I replaced the cheap generic memory with some premium sticks and I don't believe I have had a problem since. That was over a year ago.

Re: Problems Downloading Pages from CF

Well, after all my stuff above, I had one timeout and had to retry once. Probably the server or my ISP had a glitch. I thought I would mention it but I'm not going to worry about it.

What OS are you using?

I had some problems on another computer which also used Ubuntu and Chrome.

I used this free program (BleachBit) to get rid of any cache, history and adobe junk that may have been hanging around, and the problem went away. My problems were not CF specific BTW.

Re: Problems Downloading Pages from CF

Just to chime in, I've had no problems on any of my machines:

At work:
IE 7, IE 8 and Firefox - all on Win XP - all behind firewalls and through proxy server.

At home
Win XP, Win 7 and Ubuntu - all w/Firefox - all behind router/firewall combo

I'm using XP. Wondering if there is some setting in Chrome to make it a bit more patient before it times out...

It is impossible to debug software compatablity one sentence at a time from a long distance. Windows XP was written to run on much slower machines than current software is desighned for.

If by XP you mean Windows XP, or any Microsoft product, why in the world don't you contact the Windows helpdesk. I have more than once with excellent results.

Re: Problems Downloading Pages from CF

I did a google search, and it seems that it is a known problem with Chrome and forum websites.

Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data. - Google Chrome Help

They still don't have it fixed, so maybe its time to go back to the dreadful IE.
