Actually, the administrator of CF's the Google AdSense account have some control. Ads can be blocked or allowed site-wide by advertiser URL, category, or entire ad network. That said, it's typically not worth the effort.

Re: Political Advertisements On the Forum

I believe Hud's post stated that the CF owner has little or no control over the ads that support the website. I have yet to see a political ad, so I assume it has something to do with the tracking cookies on your computer; these tend to store information on articles you have recently opened or commercial sites you have visited on your browser; key words stored on the cookie will then generate an ad on any site that an advertising agency has placed an automatically spawning ad program. You could probably avoid seeing those by setting your browser to clear cookies when ever you close IE or Firefox.

I highly recommend adblock.

Thank you Sarafina: you answered my question.

The thinking is that you are more likely to click on an ad that you are interested in or have previously clicked. Nearly all of the advertising I see is technology related, as that's what I do and what I search for.

Web sites displaying Google AdSense advertising (like CF) have the option to block specific categories of advertising. Similarly, Google AdSense publishers also have the ability to allow only specific types of advertising. In cases where Google runs out of paying ads to show, they will serve free "public service advertising", which is non-profits and (yep, you guessed it) political advertising.
I repeat, sorry, my google search have nothing to do with the political ads I have seen so many time on the pages of this forum.... I'm SURE OF IT...

I recently did some extensive Googles on the Trump / Palin 2012 election bid - and CF is continuing to show me mainly dating ads

I guess it's Googles way of telling me to get out more...........

Doug: I'll be surprised , in view of the political ads I see on my page that they have something to do with my searches.. :-))
try this: open Google and search for "marine toilets". Click through a few of the first links that come up. Close your browser, then open again and google "marine santition".... Close all, then come back and open CF, see what the ads look like...

Far be it from me to be uttering any political commentary on this Forum but I can suggest a few pearls of wisdom insofar as dating is concerned if and when you do decide to "get out more"...

It appears that Google believes that if you visit several policial web sites, then you have an interest in policial ads.
Facebook will cheerflly provide the same service.
Google TV will be an advertisers delight.

Re: Political Advertisements On the Forum

Google serves ads based on your surfing habits, geo location and even page content of the page you are loading. Yesterday I was reading a thread about provisioning and canned bacon and saw ads from dehydrated food from REI Go figure....

Re: Political Advertisements On the Forum

Google's ad server has a funny sense of humor as I always see ads for sex toys when I visit a mainstream political site, yet I never see political ads. Maybe it has something to do with my searches for "sea cocks."
