If the username is valid, the system will recognize it, no matter whether the case is correct or not, and convert it to the actual case of the username. You'll see a little pop-up as you type, with a range of possible usernames in the system that could match what you're attempting to type in. To send the PM, the actual characters of the name must be exactly correct, but the case is immaterial.

Equally important is the presence, or absence, of any spacing. For example, captain 465 or Hud 3 will not work because of the incorrectly inserted space, even though the user name is otherwise correct. The key is to let the little box Hud referred to show you the possible options - if there is no possible option showing by the time you're finished typing, your message will never reach anyone.

If you do continue typing rather than selecting from the pop-up list of possibilities, and get to the end of what you think is the correct user name, but there is no confirmation of that in the little box - your intended recipient will never receive your PM. Think of the little box as your confirmation of a correctly typed user name. If you don't see it, you're wrong.

Watch the underlines

I finally found out what was wrong.............The member I was attempting to PM had a underline in his name. such as Hud_3. The avatar box that contains the information has an underline under the entire name, thus the underline of the space became invisible. The box trick works though. Thanks for the info.

Has the PM function disappeared?

Seems to have been replaced by "Profile comment" or something.

No, the PM function is very much operative. What are you seeing?

Those are two different options. If you go to a member's profile page, the "Profile Comment" option is right there in front of you, but if you look up, just below the member's name, there's a tab that says, "Send Message". Click on that and you can PM or email, if the member has activated that option.

Sorry, I went all the way to the profile instead of looking when you click on the member's name.

DtM,

Actually, you can PM from both locations. The drop-down menu when you click on a member's name, or the "Send Message" menu when on their Profile Page. We like to make things easy for you!

And a third option is to click on Private Messages at the top right under your name. There will be a menu down the left side, including one option to Send New Message.
