new computer = no spell check

I am not that smart and don't want people to find out I can't spell anymore.

New computer with Windows 7. Using Google Chrome instead of IE.

There used to be a spell check icon to click. It isn't there now.

Google will underline a misspelling but right clicking and having the word googled is too much trouble.

Thanks.

Re: new computer = no spell check

Were you using Chrome before? I am pretty happy with FF (other than some small quirks) and it does a decent job with spell check (once I convinced it to use real English and not the UK or SA kind).

Therapy, if you read the Pan Pan Pon Pon thread, it doesn't appear to make much difference anyway.

Re: new computer = no spell check

I'm using Chrome right now, and if I right click a word I've written in CF it provides a window with long list of options: spellings, definitions, web lookup, etc.

Heh.

Read that. learned that Madie sounds too much like Matey which would amount to no one responding.

I get
Copy
Search Googlle for XXX
Inspect element.

inspecting the element is far beyond what I want to see as a computer user.
Googling it finds it fine but I am lazy and don't want to learn the spelling and come back and retype it. I make more errors than that. I want it like before - a box with choices and then goes to the next word.

Not some internet search for each and every word.

Re: new computer = no spell check

Seems unyouzewel. There should be a squiggly line under words that are recognized as misspelled. Like unewzewl ... oh, wait a dang minute..it wuz working a minit ago...be right back

Re: new computer = no spell check

Okay, here we go. Mispell a word. Ahhhhh! 'Right click' in the text box where you are typing. The pop-up box will show the attached screenshot sequence. Select 'Spell checker options' and then 'Check the spelling of text fields'. There should be a checkmark to the left of that choice as depicted in the screenshot. Then the squiggly lines will be active and you can right-click and choose the word you want. Of course, the great computer will offer you correctly spelled words that do not make any sense at all.

Re: new computer = no spell check

Therapy, there normally is no spell check in any browser, because browser are for reading or viewing web sites. Traditionally.

I suspect you have forgotten about some third-party add-in that you had added into MSIE to let you spell check when you were composing something in forums. There are probably tools like that for all the major browsers, but you'd be looking for a third-party add-on or "plug in".

Here's one for Chrome:

Re: new computer = no spell check

I am having no problem with spell check using Chrome--which I rarely use by the way. It worked for me without having set anything up in configurations. If it detects a misspelling it gets the red underline treatment and all I have to do is right click on the word and am presented with a list of possible corrections. I would be truly lost without spell check as my several languages tend to create a web of different spellings which will inevitably trip me up.

Re: new computer = no spell check

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar. 3 horizontal lines
Select Settings.
Click settings.
click "Languages" section, click Languages and spell-checker settings it is located at the bottom.
to "Enable spell checking" checkbox to turn the spell-checker on or off.
