Member map link yields the no permissions text for me as well.
Found it thx.
Switched to V2.0 and got infected with advertisement, clicked back to V1.0 in a hurry.

Dear Mod: Please un-lock the secret Member Map, it would be cool to see where everybody is, perhaps it even shows folks cruising and their last log-in location?

Bottom left corner of the page.
Would someone please advise why anyone would run version 1?
What is the point of that?

Don't have an answer to that.

I was just pointing out why some could not see the globe thingy.

Re: Member Map a secret?

I seem to remember a thread that the map was somehow broken, so it was disabled.

Such a simple issue! Yet it took 2 pages of messages to get to the bottom of this.

Re: Member Map a secret?

It seems it's broke, Don. And works for nobody.

Mods don't have access to this and only the site owner could address the issue. Which dates back to 2007 or so and I'm guessing this will not be a feature that comes back online.

I say this based on poking around in a coupe of old threads.

Re: Member Map a secret?

Even mods can't access the user map on V1.0. I didn't even know it was there. I would just ignore it.

Re: Member Map a secret?

The other side of the coin is, do you really want all of CF and the internet world to know where you are? Some might think it's fun and cool, and others, rather be more discreet.

Yup, some of us would rather sail under the radar: Mad ex-wifes, bill collectors or what-not, absolutely agree.
For those who have nothing to hide and who hang out on bulletin boards always yakking about their travels and writing blogs 24/7, in case anybody is interested, this here Member Map may be the best thing since sliced bread.

Re: Member Map a secret?

The reason you are seeing this is that you have chosen to view the old, old version of the site.... it's the old blue view. The globe (which has the link to the map) is still on that skin.

The member map is an old google map that is now defunct. As the site grew it became impossible to maintain and was a security risk tot he board so it was disabled. In time that old blue view will cease to function at all. Try the new one - you might like it

To change your viewing preferences scroll aaaaaall the way to the bottom of the page - look in the lower left corner for the style picker...

Aye, now she tells us her secret.
Had no idea I was on an outdated skin or version.
(Until one brainy member pointed it out this afternoon, thx)

Ok Janet, I will try the new one and hopefully I will like it, but uh, when I switched earlier today, got infected with ads, switched back because of it.
How do we stay Ad-Free on version 2.0...?
