Insane Slowness on Site?

I experience extreme slowness on this site fairly regularly. And often, it won't fully load, so it loads without pictures, with errors, etc.I don't have this problem on any other site, and I experience it with more than one computer (my laptop, my wife's laptop, and my office desktop). Is there something about this site that makes it load much more slowly? Or is there a particular problem that's been going on for the past couple of weeks? Or, is there some setting that I could select that might make it load faster/easier?

I am sorry you're having trouble. You might want to make sure that your browser is up to date sometimes older versions don;t have the added features to load everything satisfactorily. Also update Java and Flash.

In your user cp you can disable images, if you have a slow internet connection, not loading pics helps a bit.

Hi Janet…love the avatar

I have the same problem…. (Only with CF where it seems to hang up on waiting for DoubleAd or other marketing stuff from the site) and it seems to be getting worse

Both Adobe and Flash are updated but my internet on the boat is not that fast.

Tried to find out where I could disable the pictures in my user cp menu for this site but no luck finding it.

Could you be more specific….thanks

You may also want to run CCleaner to clear out any accumulated garbage.

IN your user cp click edit options http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...do=editoptions
Then scroll down to find the section to disable images. Then hit save (all the way at the bottom).

We take a look for other issues that might be causing slowdowns. It's been running pretty fast for me recently but we all see different ads based on location and they are served from the ad servers. not by us. it's possible that one of them is slow.

Thanks for the reply. I'm up to date on all that stuff, and I'm not having any similar problem on Sailing Anarchy, Sailnet, You Tube, or any other site. Likewise, it's not always a problem. I can't help but think it's something particular to this site. I'll continue to poke around to see if I can figure out what's what. If you have any ideas, don't be shy! Thanks again.

Install and use Firefox, then install the AdBlock Pro add-on. It will end the 3rd party ad server delays on not just this site but every other one as well.

I notice it from time to time but on average it's usually quite fast. Internet traffic flow point to point so points in between can cause a delay. It's almost impossible to tell when there will be a slowness or not.

I just tried disabling pix, avatars, and sigs. Didn't help. I also went through every one of my favorites, and they loaded likety-split. Likewise, I watched some streaming video, and no problems there. I can't really figure it out. I'm running Vista Home Premium, IE8, I'm up to date on Flash and Java. Nothing seems to be helping at the moment. And when it loads (after an excessive period of time, such as me hitting "post quick reply," then walking away for a few minutes before it loads), it's loading without the pix (those red "x" where pictures are supposed to be) and telling me there are errors on the page.Bizarre that others report no slowness on the site, but some do. Now officially beyond my expertise (which is a euphemism for ignorance).

Thinking this is Promlem in your computer. 2 very easy programs to run
malwarebytes and cclean. I can't do direct links from dockside. So google them. Free down loads and they work.

Now experiencing a perfect example of how this is a bit bizarre. I reset my settings to allow pics, et al. again. I went away from the computer for a bit more than an hour or so to do something else, and now it's running fine again. It's very hit and miss as to whether it's painfully slow, to the point of the site not being usable when it's like that. And I am having the problem from several computers, with different Internet connections.

Just thought you should know.

Certainly possible, but it's only this site and only sometimes. Plus, I do have spyware and virus software that indicates nothing (which of course doesn't mean something hasn't gotten through).

malware and cclean are good products. It won't hurt to try.
