How to re-invert falsely inverted photos??

Hi,

on several occasions the photos I have posted have displayed inverted although they were perfectly up side up in my camera or phone. How can I re-invert or rotate them in to a correct position when posting?

Latest example here:

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2303032

Best regards,

Erik

Use just about any photo edit program, rotate 180*, save. Load the saved image.

I have rotated photos on my phone and posted trying to compensate for this erroneous invertion by CF but photos still post erroneously. Mind you, the original photos were perfect in my camera or phone, it is CF that causes the erroneous rotation. As far as I know it is not possible to manually rotate a photo during the posting process at CF.

Have you encountered this problem before youself? Did you try your suggested remedy?

It is your phone that is the culprit. Before you take a picture, turn off the auto rotate feature on your phone.

Re: How to re-invert falsely inverted photos??

The problem is not with CF, it's with web browsers image rendering.

The problem arises because you can hold a smartphone "any way up" when you take a photo. If the camera is held "upside down", the software will store the data from the same start corner to the same end corner of the image sensor so the image is stored "upside" down. The camera also stores an "Orientation" tag in the EXIF data which is contained in the image file along with the actual image data. If the camera was held upside down, the Orientation tag will read "Bottom Right" instead of the normal "Top Left".

Any good image display software, including the one in your phone will read this tag and display the image in the correct orientation.

Unfortunately web browser renderers generally do NOT read the EXIF data and just assume that the image is stored from top-left.

There are two options:
1. Edit and then save the image with software that lets you rotate the image.
or
2. Hold your phone the other way up when you take photos.

(For the geeks, there's a good discussion of this issue and an experimental CSS property, which may cause as many problems as it solves, here: https://foobuzz.github.io/ )

So even if my phone shows the photo upside up it doesn't necessarily mean the photo will post upside up?

Is it possible to manually rotate a photo during the posting process at CF? Any "hidden advanced" menu anywhere I missed all these years?

Take the same picture twice, but rotate one of them 180 that will tell you how to hold camera to get a right side up pic...

This may not work for you but you might try copying to another device then upload. MAC or PC for example.

For vbulletin forums (like this one), sometimes you have to crop your image first when uploading from your phone.

Nope, posting just copies an image file to the CF website. Rotating the image requires physically editing the image file and saving the changes somewhere. You would have to do that before uploading to CF.

On most Androids, including the OPs Samsung GT-N7000 (guess how I know what device he used to take his photos ), the camera is "the right way up" if the software shutter button is on the right hand side of the screen. (or at the bottom if in portrait mode).

Re: How to re-invert falsely inverted photos??

Frustrating. I have the same issue with an iPhone. As I'm left handed, I seem to take most of my shots upside down. It takes numerous attempts to get one that'll post to CF right side up. Sometimes I just say F it and post it upside down.

Before posting a picture, upload a couple and use the "preview" function and select the one that works.

Is this a test or a joke? phones, computers, etc all have photo inversion options.

Not all forum members are as tech-savvy as you, oh wondrous one.

Instead of a snide comment, why not tell the OP precisely how to invert his photos on his phone.
