How to prevent the Cruisers Daily popup?

Is there any way to prevent the Cruisers Daily popup every time I go to log on?

You could download Adblock.

You can disable this in your user CP. Look under edit options....

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...do=editoptions

it's near the bottom of the options. Hit save once you've made changes.

Is this new? I got the popup this morning for the first time in "I don't know how long" so went and changed this option. I don't recall seeing it before.

Not so. That switch doesn't do anything.

Hateful popup.

As I am a supporter, I don't think I have to pay twice. I downloaded adblock and it works on all sites. It is a good extension. There are two ways this site can exist, adds and member support.

This site checks for a cookie that indicates you've already visited the site. If present the pop up does not appear. But, if you're like me and religiously delete cookies when you exit CF or any other site the popup reappears when you return. A suboptimal arrangement to say the least. Our Settings choices should be permanent, not subject to the presence or absence of cookies.

I think what makes the pop up truly annoying, is that I already subscribe to the service, but I still have to look at the thing on my iPads and PC all the time. Why won't it stop asking me to subscribe??? I ALREADY DID IT! Many months ago.

Please make it stop.

Re: How to prevent the Cruisers Daily popup?

The problem is the hateful popup is carefully programmed to come up immediately one visits the CF site, before he can log in. When he logs in, his preferences kick in and the (spit!) popup is blocked.

It's done on purpose. CF has no respect for its users.

Re: How to prevent the Cruisers Daily popup?

IMHO, this all appears to be self inflicted to me.

I installed Ad Block a long time ago. Works great. I don't delete cookies after I visit this site. Why bother? Is there someone who controls your life that has warned you not to log on here? Is this some sort of website that will get you on the FBI watch list?

Try clicking remember me when you log in.

In the years I've been here reading daily and posting often, I've logged in maybe three or four times.

You log in?

I never log off. As a matter of fact, I have 2 laptops that are both always logged into CF at the same time, in case I'm at one end of the house or the other. It saves a little walking. Actually, I've had as many as 3 computers logged into CF simultaneously. I would think that's some sort of lax security issue, since other websites I'm on only allow one login at a time. That makes more sense, since one person theoretically should only be at one place at one time.

I say theoretically because I had an ex GF/stalker who could blow up my house phone, cell phone and emails all simultaneously. I wouldn't think that was physically possible, but there you have it.

Re: How to prevent the Cruisers Daily popup?

I think Wrong has it right, it's probably the cookies. I unchecked the option in the Users CP but the pop up appears before you log in, so preferences have no influence. I am running Firefox with Adblock Plus and ADP does not prevent this particular pop up. I also have add-ons that prevent tracking and malicious web sites and I have Firefox set to not keep any history or cookies. Since I am not planning on changing any of my FF settings, I guess I will have to live with the Cruisers Daily pop up. No big deal in the grand scheme of things.
