I will see if I can do a screen shot for you this evening after I get home from a hard days work, unless one of the other forum members is able to help out sooner.

I got a quick answer. It was basically "go elsewhere". As far as paying for the support?? I was offering my time and knowledge to update a page they were crying about. Is that not payment? Really, if someone is going to call themselves a volunteer and run a support email address without offering any form of support then their motives should be questioned. I've done the whole volunteer thing and have no illusions on the type of people who are often attracted.

Re: Cruisers' Wiki

There are three types of people in a wiki. Users (nope, not me), contributors (yep, me) and administrators. It's the administrators who are failing in this case.

If they can't provide any help other than to tell me to ask someone else (which hasn't worked in this case) then I don't really know if I can be bothered. I asked for help through the site and it wasn't forthcoming from Lori. He/she told me to look elsewhere. With this sort of piss poor attitude I'm tempted to walk away from what they were asking and delete the info I spent time researching and posting but there's probably something in there that I agreed to that they now own what I posted.
OK.... lets start from the start....

Its late here ... as with you... but lets give it a go..

Are you registered and logged in?

If so you should see this page...

edit is on the top bar... upload files bottom left...

And also.. Pete .. I know how wikis work... but a wiki like this don't work unless users are also contributors....

Re: Cruisers' Wiki

I've tried all that and found it went in circles, perhaps if I was a site developer I might get it right but I haven't succeeded. This is about complete lack of support and disrespect for contributors. I am not a user, I am a contributor and I have done my dash on this. For people to assume that everyone else has their same technical knowledge is naive.

Re: Cruisers' Wiki

If I'm contributing to a knowledge site about Vanuatu there is a fair chance that I live here with a crappy and expensive internet connection which I have used to research the desperately asked for update to someone else's site. To be told to basically bugger off by Lori from the support email address makes me wonder why I bother.

Just to be clear, I as a moderator on CF do not know who Lori is. The Sysops who run the wiki are not the CF moderators. We can try and help but you will need to be patient.

Re: Cruisers' Wiki

One door closes, another opens.

This thread prompted me to investigate the wiki section on CF. It will be a useful resource for me as a delivery skipper often sent to strange ports and areas. Sure I will take the info with a pinch of salt, but certainly won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I started a thread a while ago suggesting a wiki digital literature catalog listing links for ebooks and audio books related to sailing and cruising. Now I realise the existing wiki is the place it should be developed. And it could also include a section for digital Cruising Guides available on line - there are many excellent ones available. Comparing several different guides for the same place gives a much better and more accurate picture.

-----------------

"Desperate Deliveries" and "A Small Slip" by Cris Robinson are available from Kindle ebooks.

Cupla Questions..

Are you registered?

The 'register' thingo on the left hand side is dead... don't know why they don't remove it..

To register go and click top right 'log in'.

OK so that was only one question. The day is still young...

Thanks for this, I had hoped to do a screen shot for you, but I am still waiting for my wiki account to be approved. As I said patience is probably needed but we will get there.

I have asked the folks at Social Knowledge for input to help as well.

Regards

I have managed text only. I never learnt gibberish at Highschool so am unable to understand the instructions for posting a picture.
