Cheesy Political Ads

It's bad enough to be bombarded with political ad on the tv radio and along every open space for signage, but here! Pretty tacky imho. especially since some are flat out attacks and are just bumper sticker slogans, very little facts, mostly emotional rants. Keep it up and I, for one, am outta here!

Meg Whitman ads, but maybe they target where your isp is located.

Where? I don't see any on Cruisers forum - yet both my husband and I get cheesy ads about Kuwaiti girls on most other sites we visit... but never on CF... So I think it is unlikely even to be local targeting.

The ads on CF appear to be more than geo-targeted, they are personally targeted. I looked at some faucets on a website and their ads subsequently followed me onto CF.

We are all being watched and monitored da-da-da-daaaah

Recently, a member, in another country, made a request for info to buy a particular cat.
Another member commented and referred to a location, in a third country, where one was available, and posted the link.
I opened it as a matter of interest and the price showed, without my request, in Bermuda dollars, my native currency. (fourth country)
Strange thing about it, I was on my laptop, on a friends wireless network, IN THE US. (5th country.)
They know where you are -- spooky, ain't it?

The ads pay for the site name, disk space and periodic software upgrade so I don't mind them. Targeting me based on where I am doesn't bother me either, but Bluestocking talking about how the ad knew what currency was native, that was a little spooky.

Loco Gato, the ads on Cruisersforum are served by the Google Adsense ad network, meaning Google shows you the ads they think will bring in most revenue*. The owner of cruisersforum is thus not (necessarily) endorsing the political candidate you see advertised here.

As revenue = cost per click * click through rate, the best way not to see these ads anymore is not clicking on them.

You could also install an ad blocker as MarkJ suggested, but please note that ad revenue is the lifeline of many websites and often reinvested by webmasters to improve the site.

* It's a bit more complicated as Google uses quality scores since 2006, but the point remains the same.

Meanwhile my Paypal account has limited access! No, not the usual phishing email. A real legitimate one from Paypal. Apparently being in FL, even though I'm accessing it from the same laptop using the same jailbroken iPhone, set off a flag.
