Unhappy CF Pages too wide on Netbook

Using a standard Netbook with a 1024 pixel wide display, updated Win7 & IE10. Most of the CF pages force the page to be so wide that I have to use the scroll bar at the bottom just to read posts. Even the posts themselves are too wide to read on a single screen.

This bug, of course, makes posts very painful to read. This started a few months ago (CF worked well before) & the bug was so heinous that I was sure the devs would fix it ASAP. Obviously they didn't (not sure they knew) & when I pinged support@cruisersforum.com, Bob suggested that I start this thread.

The opening page & my profile page & these response pages are usually fine, but clicking on an email link to CF or even clicking around within CF usually (but not always) results in these wide pages. No pattern that I've noticed. Other websites display just fine - only CF seems to have this problem.

Wading through the source of a bad page, there are lots of width= parameters, about half fixed (pixels) & the rest usually =100%. One goes as high as 960 pixels, but it's hard to tell what it's referring to. A bit tough to tell what's going on without knowing a bit more about the code. (I could email or post or PM the source if anyone's interested)

Anyone have any suggestions? TIA...

Re: CF Pages too wide on Netbook

i use netbook but i refuse to use internet destroyer...i use chrome.

the page resolution is a setting inside your netbook.

there is also the making pages larger and smaller buttons--the - and + buttons will help you fit pages onto the screen --good luck with yours---i have had 3 or 4 of these things now---they rock- easy to carry and functional ... have fun

As ZH suggests, try using "Ctrl" "-" to shrink you browser size.

(works in IE and Firefox, AFAIK)

Yet, it would be a nice feature if one could hide the right hand side of the page, that has info not critical to read posts.

The right column can be turned off:

Click on 'User CP'
Then in the left column select 'Edit Options' under 'Settings and Options'
Then go right to the bottom of the page and look at 'Miscellaneous Options'
The third item is 'Turn off right column"'
Tick that box

Re: CF Pages too wide on Netbook

I use mostly Firefox. I also use any other browser as I must. Each renders in a slightly different manner. Try some.

In FF the page is too wide but this only affects the right hand column. Reading and writing are not affected.

I think I know what you're talking about.

To me, it doesn't look like an issue of CTRL - or +

In the picture I attached, I made a screen shot of the page. Everything used to line up with where the red arrows are but now the boxes with everyone's posts are wider than before.

Is this what you are talking about Jon?

Exactly! And on a (narrow) Netbook screen, the extra gets really big. Even just the text part of a post is too wide to read without scrolling back and forth.

Ctrl- does help, but then the text gets really small. Other websites don't show this problem. Why is it only here on CF?

Re: CF Pages too wide on Netbook

can you move your left border to the left more--should be a tool for that--then you fit in screen.

it appears off center

Thanks Michael! F5 reloads the page, of course, which can take a long time on our slow SE Asian connections. Trying it now I find I have to reload it 3-4 times, but it DOES seem to (eventually) work.

I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this problem. Hopefully the CF developers will do some testing with a Netbook & fix the problem, as there are a lot of them out there.
