Announcing a new website - advice needed

We are current members who have just started an informational website (sailing/boating related) which we would like to pass the word on. It is not a commercial venture, but there will be links for items to be purchased to help offset our time and costs. Which category should we post this in? We don't want to post the website name and address (we are intentionally not mentioning this info) where it goes afoul of the forum rules.

Additionally, can a link to this website be visible in our normal postings footer?

Thanks,
Mike and Brenda

Nicely done site. Same web host I am using which is free. So not sure what costs you're talking about. If you list items or services to purchase, then isn't it commercial in a sense?

Celestial,

The website we are referring to is not on Blogspot. We have our own domain which we are paying fees to use. We have not referred to the website by name or attached it in any way to our current profile or posts. Trying to do this right without upsetting any of the local animal life. We've seen how they growl and bite.

Sorry...I had assumed the blogspot was the site in question.

No biggie. The admins have responded and we have chosen not to bother. We don't want to be construed as skirting any rules which is why we asked before posting. We'll promote our informational website elsewhere.

That is shame, it would be good to see another sailing/boating site, especially one with useful tips!

Good luck with it!

Or you could set the whole thing up on Facebook. A lot of businesses do that instead of going to the expense of hosting a web site. Big question is why? What will your site offer that the other 109,984,468 sailing sites do not offer?

Reed - "Why?" Simple, we believe we are truly blessed to have these beautiful waters to sail on and want to contribute to their preservation. We are already researching these subjects, so why not assist like minded individuals by simply posting the info on the net. If you don't want to follow along and hopefully learn some tidbit of information that might improve your life or the environment, then don't read website # 1 billion.

No good deed................

Might try you hand in writing for other sailing websites to see how well you do as a writer. Can actually earn money doing that if you are good at writing. Lots of environmental mags and sites need articles. that way you let others do the daily grunge of keeping up a site.

Put a link to your web site in your blog, you already have a link yo that as your signature. If the mods don't like that, then too bad for them. This is a commercial site also and don't want competition. When CF first started, it was all about sailing, lots of rules and commercials now. Not what it was.

People exchange all kind of commercial and non-commercial links here all the time. No problem having one more. I'm quite sure numerous members here are interested of the new site. Some moderate promotion of the new is welcome since we want to hear how you see the new site yourself.
