Adding Liveaboard Sections

I have found alot of questions while cruising the web of people asking about liveaboards. Maybe if we had a forum geared toward this way of life, we could have a section where people could post locations allowing liveaboards, liveaboard problems and concerns, etc.

Thumbs up Good idea Pisces

Why didn't I think of this myself? I have plans to take people liveaboard 2 years from now.

Any suggestions for titles and text?

Liveaboards
- General
- Locations
- Recommendations/operators to avoid

I don't want it too split up, but 2-3 sections under Liveaboards may be OK.

OR, should we just put Liveaboards under Blue Water Cruising with - maybe that's better?

liveaboard . . .

I don't think it should be under Blue Water. Not everyone who lives aboard moves around although some do. Also those looking to liveaboard will be more likely to hit a liveaboard forum than a blue water forum.

Maybe these:

Current liveaboards

Questions about living aboard (solutions to problems etc.)

Places accepting liveaboards. Regulations etc.

Liveaboard vessels (what makes a good live aboard?)

some thoughts

Hi everybody;

For years I used to think sailing was a rich person's pastime.

Last year two events got me started back on the road to wanting a sailboat( and thinking it was affordable for the average Joe).

I took a Coast Guard safe boating course( I can't say enough about how good a job they did). Second was I met one of my neighbors in an RV park in Arizona ( Bullhead City on the Colorado River - it is a PWC and motorboat heaven).

What does this have to do with liveaboards you ask?

My neighbor and I were talking about the RV lifestyle. It is in a lot of ways like sailing. Some people travel a lot and park a little. Some park a lot and travel a bit. With sailing it is the same.

I happened to mention that I was looking forward to buying a sailboat in a while; I was restoring my RV not just for a nice home for my wife but to sell it at a profit for us.

He told me how there were a lot of people who liveaboard sailboats like he and I were living in an RV park. And it wasn't just the rich. He made it sound like there were marina ghettos, too.
While I doubt I'd want to live in one how freeing the idea was.

If you can't sail the world what better than to live tied to a dock? At least there is cable and internet and phone. Maybe best of all there are the neighbors.

Marina or trailer park????

In far to many cases the marina owners are there for profit rather than for a nice place to be. They become run down and for the most part the management doesn't care for the yacht owner's needs or concerns.
At least that is the way it is in west central Florida.
I rented a house with a dock for about the same as it would have cost to live in a losy marina just up the road.

And, the communities where we sailors seen to find ourselves should be educated in what it is we enjoy, how we make a living and or why we live the way we do. They just don't seem to understand that it is a way of life. A very nice way of life.
Over...
