A Call To Better Spelling

Ok, this is really dumb, but....

Are the CF moderators able to correct the typos in thread titles? For instance, this one:

Good loking Hard dodger / binimi ?

If not, why the *^%# not?

Lets take a stand for good spelling and grammar! Please!!

Doug --

The typos on this site are the result of carelessness of the posters. While it gripes my ass about like it does yours, I'm not inclined to add to the workload of the mods; they are already asking for a raise based on your suggestion!

So the plea becomes, "Please read your post before you hit 'Submit Reply' and we promise not to use you as an example". How 'bout a "DumbAss" sticker for repeat and flagrant offenders?

or maybe you could rail against the people who are above using caps and punctuation you know the type they expect us to figure out where one thing starts and another ends don't get me started on there their they're

Re: A Call To Better Spelling

I used to be a stickler for grammar and spelling but with the age of computing involving every man and woman, not just typists and secretaries, its only natural that people with all levels of ability and education are contributing and its unfair and impolite to criticize or correct.

Of course, spelling mistakes are not the same as typo errors.

If we don't make any attempt to correct, and if we accept lazy composition, we will get more of it as time goes on. Ultimately,we all get lazy together until no one cares and no one knows how to do it right anymore. I believe that imprecision in language is responsible for some of the social problems we are facing.

Should we all abandon the rules of sailing? The rules of driving? How 'bout the rules of civil discourse and public behavior? If you want to communicate, do it right, or at least well enough that you can be understood without extra effort.

Interestingly, precise terminology and clarity of commands is required for safe and efficient seamanship.

So, what's with the name ... is it "Jonh" or "Jhon" as in the post before this one?

Re: A Call To Better Spelling

Since CF is a world wide forum, should we give latitude to those who have a first language other than English?

Re: A Call To Better Spelling

SOME of those of us with bad typo slkills shoulD not be railed on as disabilities dictate the typoing skills. i can rail on those who have decent typing --- would thAT BE CONSIDERATE OR FAIR???? perhaps the dept of justice would like ot hear abou tthe bigotry against the disabled typo-ists????? mebbe we should form a union as did the farm wrkers???
disabilities that dictate lesser abilities regarding typing include:
rheumaTOID ARTHRITIS
DEQUERVAINS TENDON SYNOVITIS
REYNAUDS DISEASE
BIRTH DEFECTS
DYSLEXIAS
carpal tunnel syndrome
among others.
many of these souls, including myself, are not able to get this typo-ing thing down perfect. i was never able to type-- but i have been a stickler for proper spelling and grammar and proper usage--oh yes and terminology--and i realize there is a popular feeling agaINST most typos-- but please have some consideration, as the mods seem to have, for those of us not physically able to get this job done right.

Re: A Call To Better Spelling

I just skip the ones with no punctuation, caps, or paragraphs, passing no judgement in the process. I really don't care to decipher the message.

I proofread my post, submit, and inevitably hit edit to fix something. And I still make mistakes that I hope can be forgiven by the grammar nazis. English class was my worst subject, but I would like to be understood when I have something to say or ask for help.

I'm surprised anyone here would get too worked up about it.

Being from Alabama, (with a banjo on my knee, right?) I'm used to being judged ignorant based solely on my accent which I have refused to knowingly modify. It serves as a good filter to identify intolerance in those I meet.

I'm sure there is a mistake in here somewhere, but I do my best.
