I am installing a cockpit shower and came across the Whale Twist shower. Has anybody used this shower? My concern is that it stays turned off when stored.

Any other models worth considering? I want it to be unobtrusive (I prefer not having the big box/cover) and want both hot & cold water. Whale has another pullout model with a separate mixer that I am also considering...

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Had a search but as I lack Gords search skills I may have missed something, aim me if I have.

I want a composting toilet, not for my boat but a project my Daughter has dragged me in on. A completely and totally self contained little house made from renewable resources and which can be recycled.

Also been on a couple of yachts recently which have fitted them as a way of getting around having to fit holding tanks. Quite clever I think.

Who's got one, who knows about them and what should I be looking for and/or staying away from?

Dare I say it's been a bit of a 'shit' trying to find out good info on them. Yeah a bit limp but it is early and pre-lots of coffee :D

We have a propane line that is run directly through the cabin top on our Ingrid and it seems to me that there should be a much better way to run a robber propane line through a cabin top (or bulkhead) rather than just drilling a hole, running the line through and sealing it and hoping that it doesn't leak (which it does).
What is the proper way to run this line through approximately 1" of plywood and fiberglass? Is there a fitting available for this? I have looked and not found anything locally that will work reliably.
Thanks

To those cruisers unlucky enough like me to be spending the winter in the cold north. I thought some might be interested in how I winterize my on board water system using only one gallon of antifreeze. You can see the procedure here:
While the amount used may vary depending on your on board plumbing At five dollars a gallon for antifreeze the savings and benefits start to add up fast for your wallet and the environment.

I have a through hull for the A/C that is delivering little to no water. Had a diver come out and clean it twice but still very little water comes out. My question is it possible to disassemble a thru hull or at least remove the 90 degree turn on it while in the water? It is a marlon sp? fitting! The body has four bolts running from top to bottom and the 90 degree barb is threaded to the top

I have an older manually-pumped head, and lately it's started leaking raw water (at least, I'm pretty sure it's raw water) out of the top of the pump when it is operated.

I can't seem to find much on Brydon on the intertubes - any comments or suggestions on rebuilding this pump, before I take it apart? Is there a compatible Jabsco rebuild kit or something?

A while back I posted a thread on refrigeration wondering if those low cost units now available at places like Sams were of any use on a boat. I have a large trawler and space and battery power are not really restricted, and as I love to eat and cook I wanted lots of storage.
The general consensus was that despite the advertised frugality of the power use of these units, what mattered was the thickness of the insulation, so that most felt that they were totally unsuited for boats.
I presently have two top loading 7 cu ft freezers and one small 3.2 cu ft front loading counter top refrigerator. One of the freezers I use as a large refrigerator by not letting it get too cold. I have thermometers in each unit to get some idea what's up and sort of juggle their power supply. I run my generator about two hours a day and and use a 1000 watt inverter when needed and I must say it's all working out quite well. My batteries never drop below 12.5 v.
What I really like is that the freezers cost $197 each and the refrigerator $137, and I have a total of !7.2 cu ft of storage.
These units have their condensers on the outside skin so they can't be tightly built in and they are boxy and ugly, so you probably would not want one on your 32' sailboat, but they work for me.
