Hi there. Okay, was “gifted” an older J24 (yup I know). Anyway, swapped out the super old battery for a new marine battery from West Marine. Anyway, connected it up and it appears the electrical system might need some rework. None of the lights come on and from what I am seeing, the electrical panel, don’t see anything lighting up. The ironic thing is, the battery SHOULD be off the cabin floor (from the class rules, not that my kids will be racing, just day sailing). The wiring on a J24 should be fairly simple and imho, straightforward. Here are some pics my son took and I’m going to see what is going on. There is SO much wrong, like I am 99.9999% sure the wiring is not marine grade, the CONNECTORS ARE DEFINITELY WRONG, etc…. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi All.

I am looking for any information available on Romanee Povreau Monohulls. I have what I have been told is a Tokay Series Five 33ft. I know they were designed by Phillipe Harle and they were built in France. I am looking for any information at all. Does anybody have one the same? Are there any drawings or design stats available? I think the one I have was built in about 86 but unsure. It's name is Taranga 1 and info i can find says it was in Canada for some time. I have it in Australia.

Any info would be interesting.

Thanks

Trying to dismantle these Barlow 24 winches which have been sitting unused outside for 10 years.

I've read through other forums where they suggest a dismantling handle and 3/16 hex key for the 2 speed Barlow 24 winches but that size hex won't fit down the top cap to undo the capscrew.

Could there be a step before where the 2 holes are used to undo the top cap?

Very stuck here and looking for saving. Thanks for the help.

Now that I'm retired, am thinking of sailing again, hopefully with son and grandchildren so have found myself looking at boats much larger than the wooden 33' racing sloop I used to sail in Chester Nova Scotia decades ago. One listing I keep coming back to and would appreciate any analysis from old salts. She's unusual in design, Reuel Parker's T'ien Hou. The advertisement features both technical specs and various anecdotes or links to articles in Wooden Boat magazine. The ad:
https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/200...a-50-10109072/
A picture:

I just wonder what sailors experienced with this size vessel think of the design in terms of safety, sturdiness, comfort, sailing characteristics etc. Some of my impression:

I like that she is described as having a working boat ethos to her

I like the gaff rig, though at 71 might find it too much to handle without installing mechanical-electric help

I like that the current owner is a professional marine engineer who has sailed her extensively, often single-handing, and made some solid improvements to the Lunenburg cast windlass and the 3,200 lb keel lift mechanism

Although I'm not an engine lover, I like that she has a 1500 mile range

I like the 3'2" draft for cruising around Bahamas or going into river areas etc, also better performance when running

I like split rig; when it gets rough, drop the main, sail under 'jib and jigger', much less heel and motion, easy

I like that it looks like she sails well

Master cabin in the stern with the old Lorca-Junk style windows is cool

Not sure about the head, though I get the rationale; don't like the cockpit being so broken up, but do like the idea of it not being below decks

Suspect this is a Key West / Bahamas happy boat, not for Northern Climes

Wonder how apprropriate she is for extended offshore passages (which most likely I would only do rarely if at all, though occasional 5-10 day passages hopefully yes then cruising around an area for a holiday season etc.)

Anyway, wondering what others with a more experienced perspective might have to say about her. Thank you in advance.

I am brand new to this forum and I am trying to gather some info on a Skookum 47 I came into possession of. It was left to me by the original buyer. He had it built in ‘95 and has been sitting blocked under carport near Portland, OR ever since. It was decked but almost nothing else has been done. It seems to be in great condition. Is this something that anyone could still be interested in building? This is not a classified, I was just wondering if it could have any value to anyone including as a donation. Thank you

Looking at the '86 Sabre 36 and came across a '87 38. It looked the same ,so I had to check it out. They are identically laid out inside. The 38 being a year newer had some extras and nicer options, but were basically the same boat. Cockpits were the same except the owner's personal touches. Did Sabre decide to resize using the length overall instead of hull length? The more I look at newer 80-90s boats, the more confused I get about boat measurements. Maybe there was some mix up somewhere, and the 36 got tagged as a 38. Both are identical to sailboat data info for the 36.
I was turned onto Sabre 34 by Practical Sailor YouTube channel. Will on Calico Skies sails a Sabre 36. I wasn't sure I wanted that much boat in a more modern hull form. I prefer old slow full keel or long shallow fin keel. I don't mind a boat that heels. I quiet enjoy life on the lean. What gets me with fin keels is that sudden snap over into a heel when a certain wind speed hits or when conditions are gusty.
Looking for the cruiser not performance, but still!. My Elan was better and more thoughtful built than this one.
