Hi, Myself I am a seasoned coastal cruiser with 20 years back and forth between San Diego and San Francisco but I have never done a Pacific Crossing. I sold my boat in 2021 and the guy that bought it is Sailing to Hawaii from Ventura California. He also has never done a ocean crossing. I am in constant contact with him but him and I both are having trouble navigating the winds and cant seem to find anything favorable to get us closer to Hawaii and it seems the only way he can make progress is to the south. We both know that a direct route is impractical due to the Pacific High but it seems that it is sitting very low south and the current wind forecast on both windy and windfinder are inaccurate showing NW winds but he is experiencing only SW winds.
He is currently 200 miles west of Guadalupe Island.
