If this is overly complicated or just a bad idea in general, any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Greetings all

Two mysteries I can't solve:

MYSTERY #1 - THE POLE See attached piks
I recently acquired a Marauder (8.4m keel yacht) which was being restored (Deceased estate). The boat came in many pieces and among the pieces was this pole. It is aluminium tube. 60mm largest dia and tapers to 45mm dia at both ends. It is not a spinnaker pole as it has no parrot beak fittings and at 4.5m is too long. It is fitted with a number of fastening devices and bridle sheaves. Not a whisker pole?

MYSTERY #2 - THE WIND TRANSDUCERS: See attached Pik
These are of a Raymarine ST60 wind system.
I have 4 of them. (2 still at the top of masts and 2 on my workbench) All failed to display the wind direction without darting all over the place. Last weekend in a race it ws gusting up to 35kn and the masthead transducer suddenly went off display:banghead:

I have bought several second hand T's and had one repaired by an electronic tech. Still they all fail with similar faults.

So I'm thinking .... am I doing something wrong with the instal?
.... Is the cable roughting causing trouble?
... orrr ???

Thanks for any suggestions/help

I guess it was inevitable, but Starlink is getting quite a bit more expensive. Especially in lower economic countries where it used to have local pricing often at half or less of the pricing in developed countries. Not anymore unfortunately.

A year ago Ocean mode went up to the local equivalent of the then 2 USD per GB amount (when we first started with an Indonesian plan we paid local equivalent of 0.75 USD per GB for Ocean mode).

Most recently Starlink has rationalised their Roam plans and pricing. Eeek, only the most expensive Roam Unlimited plan can have Ocean mode now. Sigh.

At least switching plans including to Standby mode is easy to do. Though Starlink FAQ is saying that Standby mode is not intended for in motion use, so even though the 500kbps speed is sufficient for text email it may not work offshore. Has anyone tried that recently?

For us it looks like mobile connectivity is going to be more important when coastal and archipelago cruising and saving Starlink Roam Unlimited for where there’s no mobile networks and for passages.

Hello all,
An update on my previous post from "ARC My experience as a local user at Marina LPA" posted on this site on november 2024, link below.

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...pa-290622.html

The rentless efforts of the Marina management to Kick the locals out continues, again with threating emails and hundreds of local boaters affected, their abusive practices and the unfairly targeting to the very community for which this port was initually created, back in the day.

Last time I heard there are over 300 boats affected, mostly locals like me that have been there for over 10 years, transients on the waiting list to be permanent, which never ever happens. I Will spare you of some of the awful stories I have been told from others that have been kick out, and will focus on my personal experience.

The management modus opernadi: forcefully move you to a dock that they know will be repair in the near future, when that happens you get an email giving you two weeks to permanently leave port due to the ongoing repair. After asking to be moved to another dock within the port, the denial comes via email and you are to leave on the set date, by this time just a few days later. So, time to look around for another port, but there is cero vacancy anywhere in the islands, perhaps because so many have been forced out of their docks already and the overcrowded situation was already there to begin with. To make matters worse, It is forbiden to set anchor on the nearby beach from March to september, by which date the ARC boats arrive.

Tried to Talk to her and share the situation she was putting me, and many others, against, and all i got was that It was my problem, not theirs, and being very unrespecfully raising her voice and showing cero empaty.

I ended up having to take the boat out to the dry dock, not for repairs, but because I had nowhere to go, and there It stayed for several weeks before I secured a slip in a Port in another island. Personally It is been exhausting, expensive and heart breaking. I Will have to sell the boat because I dont have easy access to It anymore. In the mean time, there are plenty of empty slips all over the port, must assume they are reserves for the ARC boats I guess.

To the people that enjoy the ARC rally or come here as a stop to cross the atlantic, you will not be affected, and kuddos to you, you will be welcome as you should. This post is rather a heads Up on the situation, at least for us locals.

Cheers and fair winds

I'd like to establish a group that can advise and assist each other in all aspects of this 48-foot Pilothouse yacht.
