I found and fixed one leak. As work proceeds I anticipate coating many places on the tubes. Question : Is the coating called "Liquid Rubber". by Sea Fit work well? Does the widely advertised product called ". Flex Seal" work well in this application? Is there another way besides the soap bubble way to find leaks? Thanks all.

Simpson Davit (Manually operated) Dimensions and operation?

Hi,

we are looking into a Davit system. Initially I wanted to built a lightweight aluminium solar arch with a hoist, but now we found a very reasonable priced set of Simpson Davit. The seller says it's in very good condition and according to him it's the Model 95.

Overall it might be a lighter and cheaper solution and we could still mount two solar panels on them.

The question I have is, they have these slide out extensions.
Our dinghy ways about 100kg with outboard and fuel tank.
Can it be attached to the outer end of the extended arm and lifted and then when up, slid in into it's final storage position in a controlled manner?

It seems like the main rollers come in at the outer end of main arm and not at the extension, which I find weird

How are these extensions practically used?

Anyone have a dimensional drawing of this specific model?

Thanks for your help.

Hi all! I need your help with new dinghy concept.

There are many threads about dinghies. I'll summarize what was left in my mind.

Inflatables - cheap, lightweight, not very durable

Takacat, TrueKit and similar catamarans. Very stable, good speed. I like them a lot but they are inflatable with all that comes with it.

OC, AST carbon tenders - light but expensive.

Other rigid options are either scratching or banging the mothership (alu or GRP). Also, not very light.
For a while I was contemplating about nesting dinghy (like Spindrift) but that is quite similar to GRP.

Checked rotomolded HDPE stuff which beats anyone on durability and maintenance (Whaly and similar) but that is too heavy. Over 100 kg for 3m boat ...

I came up with

Solution:
HDPE hulls on aluminum frame Takacat style catamaran dinghy
Something like https://ikarus342000.org/DUO425pageX.html but more Takacat like. Wider hulls, better payload etc.
I would try to squeeze in two windsurf rigs too. Probably would sail like a pig but ... ;)
Also, sail load transfer might be challenging but that would be just nice to have feature.

Good:
Catamaran stability
HDPE toughness
HDPE tender is its own fender :) :) - this one came from Google AI.
Maintenance heaven (no bottom paint, HDPE is slippery - should keep barnacles away)
Lightweight (probably sounds strange for HDPE, but with production method I have in mind 40-50kg for 3m boat might be achieved)
Good payload (catamaran)
Relatively low price (slightly above Takacat and Whaly should be achievable)
Relatively good speed/power ratio (catamaran)
Good UV stability (HDPE, alu)
Wide color range (HDPE)

Bad:
Not possible to deflate, but could be dissasembled to hulls + frame and put on deck.
No planing
Difficult to row
Quite expensive shipping
Thermal expansion HDPE vs ALU (I would have to check with naval engineer about this one)

Have you seen anything similar?

Please share your thoughts and challenge my thinking process! :)
