A (somewhat) interesting, albeit fluffy, article on biofouling of the ~600-800 ships that have been forced to become "dock" queens in the Persian Gulf over the past three months. Seems our problems with antifouling are universal:biggrin:

Bloomberg (paywall) reports that diving rates have gone up as much as 60%:
Demand for ocean divers who specialize in barnacle scraping is soaring as ships stranded in the Persian Gulf for more than three months prepare to disembark.

The surge in orders for crews to clean ship hulls fouled by algae, slime and crustaceans has jumped more than 30-fold since US President Donald Trump announced an interim peace deal with Iran that will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, said Captain Manandeep Singh Kukreja, chief surveyor at Dubai-based Prominence Shipping Services LLC.

The rush has the potential to push the fees commanded by scraping crews for underwater work on a single vessel up as much as 60% to $8,000, he said during an interview. Just days ago, when Trump announced the agreement, crews were fetching $5,000 for such work.

Hi All,
I need some help to put my mind in peace. On our way to home dock we hit a rock bottom with our 2001 Bene 331 Oceanics. There was a hard noise and the boat jerked but kept going. Admiral, who was at helm got pale and I run down to see if the bilge is dry and the kill bolts are still there. No leaks. A dive to inspect the kill did not reveal anything abnormal.
Do you think that the boat should undergo any further inspection or few days of dry bilge speaks for itself?
Lesson learnt. Do not turn off the chart plotter and relax your brain even in your own home water.
Thanks

"The eyewall itself can be seen...nearly touching the sea surface...

The pancake-shaped white patches are places where the wind is
literally scooping water from the sea...This is a place of
unmitigated violence, where bubble-filled water gradually gives
way to spray- and cloud-filled air, with no definite interface that
one could call the ocean surface. It is arguably the worst place
in the world for a ship."
