Relevant and practical training for the largest and most remote wilderness on earth. Emphasizing the understanding of body systems and principles of care to best prepare the med office to improvise and adapt to the infinite variety of challenges that the open sea can present. This class is designed for voyaging sailors as well as professional mariners. Classroom instruction is tied to the student's own experience through the liberal use of case studies, scenarios, and hands-on assessment problems in a marine context. Upon completion, students will earn an Offshore Emergency Certificate. Previous medical training is not required.

Cost: $800 not including required text for 9 hours pre-study and pre-test. Includes laboratory and training supplies. Some of the practical sessions include wound care, reduction and splinting, extracation and injections.

Class size: 12-18

This course is approved for 36 hours of CE credit for state licensed EMT's and Paramedics. Nurses, PA's and physicians can use the course for Category II credits.
