Destin Harbor on a 4th of July Weekend

I was considering a trip to Destin this weekend and was curious how crazy and crowded the harbor might be. I don't want to attempt squeezing under the bridge so anchoring in the harbor would be the plan.

I'd rather have a root canal, and that unanesthetized, than go anywhere in the Panhandle from Destin west thru Pensacola (and beyond to Lower Alabama) on a holiday weekend. In fact I don't care to go there at all until something like November or December. YMMV

I can promise you, it will be nuts.

EDIT: go east to Appalachicola or St George's Island. Peaceful waters, though the small towns will be rather busy.

Yep, that's just crazy talk I tell you.

Every rental boat in the area will be on the water.

I wander in one Thursday before the holiday. And by noon Friday had already decided I wasn't leaving til Tuesday.

It was a freak show. But I'd rather scrub barnacles every day for a week for free than be underway in that mess.
