Alternative routes in Pacific?

We're planning a cruise with a Gecco 39 ft sailing boat from Panama to French Polynesia and back next year.
We're planning to leave as early as the weather let us from Panama Canal via Galapagos (around March) further west to the Marquesas Islands and then cruising through the French Polynesia, Cook islands, Solomon Islands and north to Marshall Islands from April til September. Then the plan is to head east to Hawaii and then cruising to San Francisco bay.
Anyone that has done this particular crossing?

When would the best time during the autumn be for taking the trip from Marshall Islands to Hawaii and further on to San Fran, regarding winds, currents, hurricane season etc? And how far north you need to go before heading east to avoid the North equatorial current on the way to Hawaii? We read about reaching the top of the high pressure system aroung 40 degrees north..
We're looking to leave Hawaii around Oktober/November and go further down to Mexico in the end of December when the hurricane season is over. Any thoughts on this plan? Alternative routes? How strong weather to expect at 30/40 degrees north?
